Huw Edwards has been in talks into talks to replace Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain despite his 40 year run at the BBC.
The newsreader expressed an interest in stepping into the role as he looked to shake up his career after almost four decades.
But his plans didn’t come to fruition when ITV failed to offer him the position, according to reports by The Times – though talks about the position are thought to be ongoing.
Huw, 60, had hoped to make the transition to GMB after Piers walked out following an on-air argument with weatherman Alex Beresford about Meghan Markle.
The two clashed after comments made by Piers suggesting that he didn’t believe segments of her Oprah Winfrey interview alongside Prince Harry where she discussed feeling suicidal.
He sparked 54,000 Ofcom complaints with the row, overtaking Diversity’s Black Lives Matter performance on Britain’s Got Talent as the most complained about moment on TV ever.
Just last month Piers and Huw posed for pictures together at the TRIC awards when Piers won the prize for Best News Presenter pipping both Huw and his former Good Morning Britain co-star Susanna Reid to the post.
The trio joked around in photos together at the event with Piers sharing them to his Instagram page.
Huw comically waved a fist at Piers in the snap ahead of the announcement of his win.
Piers wrote: “You’re going down Boyo… @thehuwedwards #tricawards @TRICawards.”
Huw later shared the post to congratulate his rival as he joked: “I stormed out so he won by default Flag of Wales #congratulations @TRICawards @susannareid100.”
In September Susanna admitted being put in an “awkward” position by bosses over Piers.
Speaking about the Ofcom ruling that vindicated GMB and piers she said: “On the one hand, I’ve got my friend Piers Morgan and the other my bosses. It was awkward.
“Ofcom included this significant freedom of speech mention… it’s all over the papers today as a landmark ruling.”
Piers, meanwhile, will be stepping into a brand-new role himself – appearing on a new “global” show talkTV, set up by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.
