I'm A Celeb bosses 'book castle for 2021 series' as Covid threatens Oz return

I’m A Celebrity bosses have reportedly secured Gwrych Castle for the second year as coronavirus fears mean the ITV show may not be able to return to Australia.

The team behind the reality show are thought to be keen to return Down Under for the 21st series but have secured the castle used last year as a back-up plan.

A source told The Sun: “Ultimately they are at the mercy of Covid-19 restrictions.

“Formally an agreement is in place for the use of Gwrych Castle this year.

“Should the show need to be held there again it has all got the green light.

“A huge amount of work went into readying the building so the basics are all laid down and ready to go.”

The 2020 series of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me out of Here! was held in the 202-year-old North Wales relic after filming in Australia was stopped by coronavirus restrictions.

Over 10.2million tuned in to watch podcaster Giovanna Fletcher, 35, be crowned the first-ever Queen of the Castle in December.

The brunette author looked absolutely stunned as hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly revealed she had won the 2020 series.

As she hugged her fellow finalist Jordan North, Giovanna then proceeded to take a seat on the castle throne and appeared to be in complete shock.

“This is really comfy, I can’t believe it!” she replied, when asked how it felt to have won the show.

“People have literally picked up their phones and voted,” she added.

Speaking about making it to the final of the 2020 series, Giovanna said: “It’s been the most amazing adventure ever. I’ve loved it. I really will cherish the memories forever.

“It truly is humbling to be in the final three,” she added. “I’ve laughed so, so, so much.”

2020 was the first year I’m A Celeb wasn’t filmed in Australia in the show’s 20-year history.

It took a while for fans to adapt to the new location but some revealed they preferred the castle setting to the usual jungle background by the end.
