I’m A Celeb star Richard Madeley will reportedly still receive his £200,000 fee for appearing on the show.
The Good Morning Britain host exited the show lineup on Thursday after being rushed to hospital in the early hours of the morning when he felt unwell.
Richard, 65, has confirmed that he is in good health after the scare – but Covid regulations mean he cannot return to the camp.
His exit was confirmed earlier on Thursday where he explained the events which led to his departure in a statement.
And the popular journalist will get his £200,000 payment as he was forced to leave on medical grounds according to The Sun.
Speaking in his statement Richard said: “I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
“By leaving the camp, I had consequently broken the Covid ‘bubble’ and as such, I’ve had to leave the castle and all the wonderful celebs.
“Obviously I’m gutted to be leaving so soon but the safety of all the campmates is the number one priority. I’m incredibly excited to watch their journey continue … even more so at the prospect of being somewhere a little warmer than Gwrych Castle.”
Richard then thanked everyone who had made his brief stint in Gwrych Castle possible and called it an “unforgettable adventure”.
He continued: “Thank you to everyone who supported me on my brief but completely unforgettable adventure – I’ve made some great friends and honestly had the time of my life.”
A statement from show creators ITV read: “Our strict Covid protocols means Richard has sadly had to leave the show as he is no longer in the bubble the celebrities form when entering the castle.
“He has been a truly brilliant campmate and we thank him for being part of this series.”
Despite speculation that Rudimental chart-topper DJ Locksmith would enter the camp to replace Richard, it has been confirmed nobody will be taking his place.
Meanwhile, the presenter’s daughter Chloe Madeley posted to her fans on Instagram earlier on Thursday to confirm that her dad was in good health but “livid” at his exit.
She wrote: “Thank you for all your lovely messages. Dad’s absolutely fine, we’ve been speaking to him all day and ultimately, he’s just livid he can’t go back into camp because of Covid restrictions.”
