Innocent fans predict Sally's 'lies will be exposed' as investigation continues

Innocent viewers are convinced that Sally Wright (Katherine Kelly) could not be telling the truth in a shock twist.

The ITV series returned to our screens on Monday night for a harrowing second series, which will play out until Thursday.

Sally was released from prison in episode one after previously being charged with the murder of 16-year-old student Matty Taylor.

The teacher has since been on a mission to clear her name, having also been accused of having an affair with the murder victim.

Despite being found not guilty in a re-trial, she’s still being treated with suspicion by those around her as she struggles to settle back into the community she has been a part of for her whole life.

However, viewers at home are convinced that Sally is not as innocent as she’s making out after watching episode two.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “I believe Sally did sleep with him. I though she was shifty.”

Another added: “I don’t think they were rumours. I think there definitely was something between Matty and Sally.”

A third person posted: “I’m beginning to wonder if Sally is guilty after all.”

Fans think Sally may still be involved in Matty’s murder

While a fourth social media user said: “I don’t think Sally’s as innocent as people think. There’s something weird about her.”

“Sally is being too nice. Maybe she isn’t so #innocent after all,” a fifth viewer wrote.

“It might turn out that Sally was actually having sex with Matty, but didn’t murder him,” someone else typed.

The affair theory was backed by a former student at Sally’s school, named Anna, who claimed at the time to have seen the pair kissing.

It was this evidence that pinned the crime on Sally because it appeared as though they had a fling – while they were also spotted having a row moments before his death.

Anna Stamp (Ellie Rawnsley) was lying though, with detectives now trying to work out why she would have made something like that up.

The youngster began making up lies about Sally threatening her to the police, saying she’d threatened to break into her home and smother her with a pillow.

She also claimed she didn’t know Matty, but the latest episode proved that Alice did know the deceased.

There was also a major twist in the investigation on Tuesday night as John Taylor (Andrew Tiernan) was revealed to be not Matty’s biological father.

Both John and his wife Maria (Lucy Black) refused to tell the officers the identity of the man who fathered the late schoolboy.

However, an angry John punched an unknown male character in the pub towards the end of the episode, leaving fans wondering if he was Matty’s dad.

Innocent continues Wednesday on ITV at 9pm
