ITV viewers in tears as The Wanted's Tom Parker performs and gives health update

Ashley Banjo’s Strictly The Real Full Monty continues to wow viewers as celebrities gear up to strip off.

Tuesday’s episode had an emotional punch, as the show – which aims to raise awareness of life-saving cancer checks – opened with boyband The Wanted performing on stage.

Tom Parker, 33, was among the lineup despite announcing in October 2020 that he had been diagnosed with an inoperable grade 4 glioblastoma.

After performing with bandmates Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes, Tom spoke to host Ashley Banjo about how he’s doing.

“Obviously I did this show two years ago and I didn’t think I’d be two years down the line and have cancer, but here we are,” he said.

Tom was delighted to be there

“But we’re doing it for a good cause and everyone is here for a good purpose,” Tom added.

Ashley said: “It’s incredible to see you back, man. And like we always say, you never know – it can happen to anybody.

“Honestly mate, you’re a hero. You’re just so brave and I know you’re just attacking it, getting on with life and honestly we genuinely wish you all the love and support in the world, my friend.”

Host Ashley Banjo praised Tom’s bravery

As Tom said “Thank you, so much,” the audience erupted into cheers and applause.

Emotional viewers took to Twitter to share their support.

“Did I cry at The Wanted on Real Full Monty? Yes. Was it because they were incredible? ABSOLUTELY,” said one

“Literally crying. Tommy, you are our superhero,” added a second fan, while another wrote: “Definitely didn’t just shed a tear when Tom started talking.”

The Wanted wowed the crowd during the Full Monty

Tom, who was diagnosed with the terminal inoperable illness last year, has been undergoing intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment.

He was initially told that the plan would only prolong his life, with a 12 to 18 months life expectancy.

Astonishingly, after six rounds of chemotherapy and 30 radiotherapy sessions, he was able to reveal that his outlook is considerably more positive.
