It’s a drastic move which signals that Jesy Nelson means business. The ex-Little Mix star has purged her Instagram account of all her old photos and videos, even replacing her profile photo with a blank pink image.
There was no warning beforehand, but speculation is rife that Jesy’s solo career is imminent.
Before her digital new beginning Jesy gave fans a hint of her upcoming material. She shared clues on social media, including a soundless clip of her music playing in an audio recording computer programme in a studio.
A source has told The Sun that Jesy’s upcoming album ‘has all come together quite quickly’.
They added; ‘Her new record label Polydor are keen to strike while the iron is hot, so they are throwing everything at her project and want the first single out in a matter of weeks.’
Jesy has reportedly spent the past few days in rehearsals with dancers for the music video to go with her first release, with sources claiming the track is ‘more upbeat than some might be expecting.’
This isn’t the first time that Jesy’s relationship with social media has created headlines. In her National Television Award-winning documentary Odd One Out, she revealed that online trolls had damaged her self esteem around body image.
She announced in December that she would be leaving Little Mix after nine years in the chart-topping girl band, in order to focus on her mental health.
The insider added: ‘The difference this time is that she is not comparing herself to her bandmates. It’s been so refreshing for her.
‘Jesy has been working hard and is feeling really positive about this new chapter of her career.’
In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, Jesy discussed the expectations around this next stage in her career.
She explained: ‘I feel like there’s been a few people who don’t understand why I left Little Mix but am now in the studio making music. A lot of people said, “I thought you came out of the band to focus on your mental health?”
‘I never said when I put out my statement, that I was coming out of the band to never be in the public eye, perform again or do music. I said I was coming out of the band because I genuinely couldn’t deal with the pressure of being in a girl band.’
