Britain’s Got Talent winner Jon Courtenay almost didn’t tell his wife Emmah about his devastating skin cancer diagnosis.
The 2020 winner was carrying a big secret as the musical comedian marched to glory, picking up a £250,000 prize in the process.
While competing on the ITV show, he decided not to share his news with the world because he wanted his performances to be judged on his ability alone.
But he also considered keeping his condition quiet from his wife, too.

The comedy pianist had a heartbreaking reason to shy away from telling Emmah what he was going through.
He said he almost didn’t say anything was because “of what she went through” when her father lost his battle to skin cancer.
He said on This Morning: “Because of what she went through it was at the forefront of my mind.
“I was driving home and I thought maybe I won’t tell her.

“I totally wasn’t going to tell her but as soon as I saw her face I told her. I had a little cry.
“It really just hit me at that point.”
Jon told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield he didn’t want the show to become all about him and his off-camera fight.
He was thankfully given the all-clear by doctors just before Christmas.

Jon is now urging others to get help from Macmillan Cancer Support.
He added: “I know the BGT cliche is people having sob stories. I didn’t want it to be about my head. I wanted it to be about my career.
“It would have detracted away from what I was trying to do.”
Anyone in need of cancer support can call the Macmillan Support Line on 0808 808 00 00, which is open 7 days a week, or visit Macmillan’s website or Online Community.
