Music fans rejoice – one of Britain’s funniest shows, quizzing contestants on all things music, is making a much-anticipated return to our screens.
Never Mind The Buzzcocks will be on our radar for the first time in seven years, with Inbetweeners star Greg Davies stepping in as the new host.
Noel Fielding, who has been lending his presenting skills to The Great British Bake Off in recent years, will return as a team captain in the new series.
On the rival team, Daisy May Cooper – whose award-winning show This Country has joined the comedy hall of fame – will lead as captain, replacing Phill Jupitus in the role.
While the comedy classic was previously a BBC hit, this time it will make the switch to rival channel Sky.
A source told The Sun: “It’s a tried-and-tested format and one Sky were delighted to bring back.
“Greg is perfect for the role, Noel is in his rightful home and Daisy is a great addition to the cast. Everyone can’t wait to get it on air.”
The show will see Noel and Daisy compete against one another with a bevvy of musical guests, with funnyman Greg overseeing the competition.
Greg Davies told the publication: “I have always loved Never Mind the Buzzcocks and am thrilled to be the new host on Sky. We have brilliant comedic talent on the team and plenty of exciting musical guests will be joining us.
“All that being said, I’m so sure that no one reads these press quotes in their entirety that I’m going to finish by listing types of bread: rye, sourdough, sliced white. Oh, and cob.”
First launching in 1996, Never Mind the Buzzcocks was a staple of quizzing television, originally hosted by Mark Lamarr and then by Simon Amstell.
The name of the show has its own place in music royalty – it is inspired by the iconic Sex Pistols album Never Mind the Bollocks.
Noel joined the show as team captain in 2009 and remained in the role until the show came to a sombre end in 2014.
Some of the biggest names in comedy have shown face in the series, with the likes of Stephen Fry, Russell Brand and Frank Skinner joining the quiz teams over the years.
With such an esteemed reputation to live up to, the series revival has big shoes to fill – and no doubt Noel and Daisy are ready for the job.
