Notting Hill Actor Tony Armatrading has tragically died aged 59 after battling cancer.
Armatrading’s death was confirmed by fellow actor and close friend Tim Bentinck.
Taking to social media to pay tribute he shared an image of the star in hospital.
Bentinck wrote alongside the image: “Very sad news. My dearest friend Tony Armatrading died of cancer an hour ago.
‘I had the privilege of being his best man, and loved him dearly.
“He was a wonderful actor, and a true friend. This pic of him with Suzy and Dash taken last night.”
As well as appearing in Notting Hill, Armatrading had a role in series of Star Wars video games.
He enjoyed an impressive career which included a string of TV appearances including on Channel 4 soap Brookside and iconic police drama The Bill.
He starred alongside David Jason in A Touch Of Frost
As well as his TV roles, Armatrading had a part in blockbuster film The Saint.
The late star was the younger brother of singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading.
The actor, best known for his roles in Hollywood blockbuster The Saint and popular romantic comedy Notting Hill, was the younger brother of celebrated singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading.
Before making it onto the big screen Armatrading worked as a stage hand at Birmingham’s Repertory Theatre.
When he was just 17-years-old he became Head Flymann.
From there he moved to the National Theatre’s Lyttelton and appeared in a Royal National Theatre production of Measure for Measure.
He took on the part of The Messenger.
Tony’s final role was aired last year when he appeared in an episode of rebooted TV series Hawaii Five-O.
