Paul McCartney says no more autographs after becoming fed up with 'strange' fan requests

Sir Paul McCartney insists he will refuse to sign any future autographs because he feels like it is ‘pointless.’

The 79-year-old pop icon has announced he would rather stop and chat with fans rather than sign away or snap a selfie.

In an interview, he told Readers Digest: “It always struck me as a bit strange – “here, can I write your name down on the back of this till receipt please?” Why? We both know who I am.”

Paul also expressed that he doesn’t like taking selfies either, usually because of their poor quality.

He continued: “What you’ve usually got is a ropey photo with a poor backdrop and me looking a bit miserable. Let’s chat, let’s exchange stories.”

The decision follows former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr’s choice to stop signing autographs, which he declared back in 2008.

The superstar made the choice after he realised others were massively profiting from his signature.

He told the Press Association at the time: “I don’t autograph. All autographs are on stuff that I’ve (done). One of my paintings or something I’m involved with, and it goes to charity. It doesn’t just go out there for other people to sell.”

Earlier this month, Paul admitted that he has been left no choice but to hide his hemp crop at his farm out of the sight of thieving teenagers.

The Beatles star has been growing hemp, which is a form of cannabis plant, at his Peasmarsh family farm near Rye.

It seems that the local teenagers have got a whiff of McCartney’s green-fingered project and have been attempting to steal his crop in an effort to get themselves high.

The musician said: “We grow crops, I like doing things like spelt wheat, rye, we grow peas.

“We’re actually just getting into growing hemp, the funny thing with government regulations is you’ve got to keep it where people can’t see it, because you get all the kids coming in and robbing it!”

Paul insists that within government regulation he is able to grow the hemp alongside his other crops.
