Piers Morgan accuses Prince Harry of using 'mental health' as an excuse

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has once again savaged Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – this time accusing them of using mental health as an excuse to avoid royal duty.

The outspoken Life Stories host wasted no time in letting rip at the controversial couple as he and Susanna Reid woke up the nation on Monday morning.

He hit out at Harry and Meghan as CBS released a preview clip of the couple’s blockbuster interview with Oprah Winfrey and confirmed the couple weren’t paid for the chat.

However, Piers raged: “They use their royal titles to make themselves be astonishing rich.

“They will get a large amount of exposure from the chat.

“If they really wanted freedom they would give up the titles and be Harry and Meghan and they would do well still.

“It is the jarring fact they don’t want royal duty but thy want the royal titles.”

As Susanna tried to defend the couple, Piers interrupted: “No, we have to move past that they want to be left alone.

“They don’t want to be left alone. They wouldn’t be giving interviews if they wanted to be left alone.”

Keen to give the couple support, Susanna tried to argue that Harry and Meghan felt boxed in by the scrutiny – claiming they were “being bashed” around the clock.

Rattled by the allegation, former newspaper editor Piers Morgan hit out: “They are not constantly bashed all the time they get both good press and bad press.

“That is what pubic people get. You don’t demand only positive coverage. That would be ridiculous.

“But is not relentlessly, that is a total myth. They had the best coverage up unto the wedding.

“Stop using mental health as an excuse. The Queen has never done that – saying ‘look at me struggling in my place’.

“When did the Queen ever do that and say – ‘have you thought about me?'”

In a freshly released preview clip with Oprah, Prince Harry said: “My biggest concern was history repeating itself.”

He added: “For me, I’m just really relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you with my wife by my side.”

Talking about his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, Harry continued: “Because I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like for her going through this process by herself all those years ago because it has been unbelievably tough for the two of us but at least we had each other.”

The interview will air on March 7 in America on CBS and will be shown on ITV shortly after.
