Martha De Laurentiis, an American film and TV producer has died aged 67 after spending over forty years in the industry.
The late wife of Dino De Laurentiis died on Saturday after a long battle with cancer.
TV writer and producer Bryan Fuller worked with Martha on the NBC series Hannibal broke the news on social media telling fans she: “Died peacefully with her family at her side.”
Fuller penned: “What an amazing lady.
“Martha De Laurentiis left us yesterday peacefully with her family at her side.
“Long live Martha and her brilliant legacy.”
In 1980, Martha and Dino founded the Dino De Laurentiis production company which she served as chairman.
The couple married in 1990 and remained together until Dino’s death in 2010.
The pair had two daughters together, Carolyna and Dina.
Martha was credited as Martha Schumacher on productions through to 1995 including her Stephen King adaption, Firestarter.
She has also produced Thomas Harris novels including Hannibal in 2001, Red Dragon in 2002, Hannibal Rising in 2007 and executive produced NBC series Hannibal which ran from 2013 to 2015.
Across the decades, Martha has had several credits including Silver Bullet, King Kong Lives, Artic and more recently on the new adaption of Firestarter which is due to be released in 2022.
In a statement to Deadline, Fuller shared: “I met Martha DeLaurentiis 10 years ago.
“She welcomed me into her home, and fed me perfectly cooked pasta overwhelmed with white truffles as I professed to her my love for Hannibal Lecter, the cannibal psychiatrist.
“I’m writing now to profess my love and deep admiration for Martha, the canny producer.
“Through decades of on-the-ground, in-the-trenches filmmaking, she evolved a signature style. Smart, tasteful, elegant, respectful and present.
“Always positive and always pulled together. She read every draft of every script, was on set every opportunity.
“She was the most glamorous cheerleader anyone could ask for.
“Martha supported the storytellers with all her might, every artist, every craftsperson. She treated us all like family.
“Martha DeLaurentiis has been and always will be The Matriarch.”
