Ricky Gervais reckons he could be replaced by a robot one day.
The Office star wonders if computers could start to think like humans.
He said: “Will there be a robot that’s bigger and taller and stronger than me?
“One that’s made of steel that can see in the dark – and is a better stand-up?
“I’ll go out, I’ll fall over and the crowd will go wild. They’ll go, ‘look at him, look at that fat bloke, he’s dying!’
“And the robot will go, ‘I can’t compete with that. I’d never thought of that!’
“If it is true that the brain is purely physical, it can be reproduced.

“So, in the future, will we have paranoid computers?
“Will we have computers that are nice and nasty, that don’t want to die or want to murder someone?”
Ricky, 59, who stars as Tony in hit Netflix show After Life, also reckons cavemen invented selfies.
On the Making Sense podcast with Sam Harris, he said: “Everyone’s a narcissist these days.

“From when we were hunter-gatherers, we all had a bit of ‘I woz ‘ere’ in us.
“We used to put our hand on a cave wall and blow woad on it and that was it – that was our selfie. We had one selfie.
“And now, I think it was in 2014 there were more photos taken in that year than in the rest of history. It’s exponential.
“So we’re all narcissists and it’s been enabled with social media, everyone’s famous.”
The funnyman said it provided him with the inspiration for Paul Kaye’s role in After Life. Kaye plays Tony’s psychiatrist.
Ricky added: “I thought, ‘Well, that must happen in all jobs’.
“So 10% of teachers must be narcissists, 10% of judges, whatever.
“Who’s the worst person to be a narcissist?
“A psychiatrist, who’s meant to be there for you – so that was the gag”
The final series of After Life is reported to be airing on Netflix later in the year.
