Rod Stewart ends bitter feud with pal Elton John to 'set example for his kids'

A showbiz rivalry that has lasted more than two years has ended at last.

Sir Rod Stewart and Sir Elton John are pals once again, after Rod ends the feud ‘as an example to his eight kids’.

The pair fell out in 2018 after Rod went on US TV and claimed Elton was “money-grabbing” for launching a 300-date farewell tour – saying it was “dishonest” and that it “stinks of selling tickets”.

But the Handbags And Gladrags singer admitted he slighted his frenemy and has now apologised.

He said: “I say to my kids, ‘A man apologises, go and apologise to your mother’. We’ve just made up as friends again, me and Elton.

“We’ve always been fierce enemies, as you know, through the years, but it’s always been at a playful level.

“But we had the worst row, like a married couple. It went on forever.”

The two rockers have been friends for 50 years and over the decades have constantly tried to wind each other up, calling themselves Sharon and Phyllis.

But Rod’s last set of remarks annoyed the Pinball Wizard hitmaker.

In his autobiography, Me, Elton said: “I thought he had a f***ing cheek, complaining about me promoting a tour while he was sat on a TV show promoting his own tour.

“I had no idea what I’d done to upset him so much, which was ironic, given the hours I’d put in over the years deliberately trying to annoy him.”

But once Elton calmed down, he tried to patch up with his pal Rod on two occasions, and he was met with silence.

On The Harry Redknapp Show podcast, available on Global Player from Tuesday, Rod admitted he realised he was in the wrong and reached out to the rocker.

He said: “I was a bit spiteful when he announced his tour. I regret it, I really do regret it.

“So we’re mates again now. I do love him.”
