Sacha Baron Cohen takes aim at Hollywood in scathing Golden Globes speech

Sacha Baron Cohen has taken a series of sarcastic pot-shots at US heavyweights Donald Trump and Rudy Giuliani, as well as the Hollywood press during his highly-amusing Golden Globes winning acceptance speech.

The 49-year-old comedian, aka Borat and Ali G, used the platform to take aim at former US president Donald Trump, his right-hand man Rudy Giuliani and, as he termed it, the “all-white” Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Sacha’s Borat Subsequent Moviefilm won him two Golden Globes during Sunday night’s glittering ceremony.

He scooped Best Actor in a Comedy and Best Comedy Motion Picture.

But the antagonistic star, never shy of courting controversy, had no problem mocking Trump and Giuliani, the latter of the two having been an unwitting co-star in the Borat sequel.

“Who could get more laughs out of one unzipping? Incredible,” joked Sacha, referring to the now famous hand-in-pants moment from Giuliani during a controversial hotel scene with actress Maria Bakalova in his award-winning movie.

“This film could not have been possible without him,” he added with a wry smile.

Rudy, the former Mayor of New York, has since claimed he was just adjusting his microphone rather than doing anything sexual.

“Our movie was just the beginning for him. Rudy went on to star in a string of comedy films, including Four Seasons Landscaping, Hair Dye Another Day and the courtroom drama A Very Public Fart.”

And Trump didn’t get off lightly either, with Sacha mocking the former US President’s outrage over the recent presidential election.

“Hold on, Donald Trump is contesting the result,” said Cohen, as he gestured holding a mobile phone to his ear.

“He’s claiming that a lot of dead people voted, which is a very rude thing to say about the HFPA.”

Sacha was joined on screen by his wife of over 10 years, Isla Fisher, who could hardly contain her laughter.

Sacha revealed in January that the idea behind the Borat sequel was to try and convince viewers to vote against Trump as he tried to cling on to the White House office.

He also filmed that now infamous fake interview with Trump’s lawyer Giuliani at anti-lockdown protests to provoke reaction.

“I don’t want to egotistically imply that people would watch Borat and not vote for Trump, but that was the aim,” Cohen told Variety.

Sacha was also quick to highlight the recent outrage over the absence of black journalists in the HFPA.

“Thank you to the all-white Hollywood Foreign Press,” joked Sacha, who shot to fame on British TV screens with his satirical character Ali G more than two decades ago.

This year’s Golden Globes were postponed from January to the end of February.

They were broadcast from the top of New York’s Rockefeller Centre, with Sasha appearing for his humorous interview via a video link.
