Skid Row icon Johnny Solinger dies at 55 from liver failure as tributes pour in

Former Skid Row singer Johnny Solinger dies aged 55 from liver failure, his devastated former bandmates have confirmed.

In an emotional statement on Facebook, they wrote: “We are saddened to hear the news of our brother Johnny Solinger.

“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans.

“Godspeed Singo. Say hello to Scrappy for us.”

It was signed off: “Much love, Rachel Bolan, ZP Theart, Snake Sabo, Rob Hammersmith, Scotti Hill.”

Solinger revealed to his fans that he was suffering from liver failure in May earlier this year.

He wrote on his social media post: “It is with a heavy heart I must let everyone know what’s going on with me and my health.

“I have been hospitalised for over the last month.

“I have been diagnosed with liver failure. And prognosis is not so good.

“As with most musicians I do not have health insurance and it’s very difficult to get proper care without it.”

Solinger also revealed that he needed to have fluid drained from his abdomen everyday and was on “at least seven different medications”.

He added: “I have lost a lot of strength and will require physical therapy as well.”

And the struggling singer opened up about his financial difficulty, revealing he’d been forced to look into fundraising to pay for his medical bills and palliative care.

“I would not be asking you all this if I didn’t really need the help, but sadly this is where I’m at.

“I appreciate and want you all to keep me in your thoughts and send me all the healing vibes you can, but I get exhausted easily so I will ask you to please not call or text unless absolutely necessary.

“But please, if you can help in this difficult time, I will wholeheartedly appreciate it.

“Love you all.”

Solinger was Skid Row’s lead singer when the band reformed in 1999 after splitting three years earlier.

He left the band in April 2015 and was replaced by singer Tony Harnell, with rumours that his exit was acrimonious.

The lead singer leaves behind wife Paula Marcenaro, who posted a tribute to her husband on Instagram today, writing: ” “The reality is, you will grieve forever.

“You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it.

“You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered.”
