Strictly bosses 'desperate to sign up GB News star Andrew Neil for 2021 series'

He’s known for his strong opinions from behind a news desk, bu viewers could reportedly be about to see Andrew Neil in sequins and glitter on the Strictly dance floor.

If show bosses get their way, Andrew Neil would join the ranks of celebs trading their day jobs for the jive instead.

It’s reported that producers approached Neil, 72, earlier this month, and are keen for him to compete.

Andrew recently quit the BBC after presenting political coverage there for 25 years, and he jumped ship to GB News.

Despite this slight, the Beeb are still keen to have him take part in the popular dancing show.

Many other journalists have donned their dancing shoes over the years, including Kate Silverton, 50, Susanna Reid, 50, John Sergeant, 77, and Natasha Kaplinsky, 48,

A source told The Sun on Sunday: “Andrew was flattered by the request from Strictly and thinks the idea of him prancing around a ballroom in sequins is hilarious.

“He was asked to take part in the show four years ago, too, but turned it down.

“Now his mates are trying to persuade him to accept.

“It will at least keep him in the public eye and help to promote his profile.

“It’s not often he ventures away from serious news projects and he has a lot on his plate.”

“Strictly has become the number one show for so many political figures and Andrew is one of the biggest names.”

However, a BBC spokeswoman is quoted as saying: “We aren’t commenting on speculation of names.”

Andrew has been a high-profile signing to new station GB News.

It’s only been up and running for a few weeks, but the presenter announced he is already taking a break from the station.

He said: “That’s it for tonight and from me for the next few weeks.

“But I leave you in the safe and professional hands of Colin Brazier.”

Andrew reassured viewers: “I’ll be back before the summer is out and when you least expect it so stay tuned.”

He added candidly: “But before I take this break, let me say this. Yes, we had a bit of a rocky start with the launch of GB News.”

Andrew continued: “We’re a start-up, they’re always a bit rocky these start-ups.”

“But we are up and running as you can see, we get better every day and there’s clearly an appetite for what we’re doing.

“And in two short weeks, we’ve already built a loyal audience which has beaten all of our expectations, it’s often bigger than the other news channels and it’s growing.
