Gemma Atkinson has suggested Katie McGlynn and Gorka Marquez has “no rehearsal time” before they were voted off Strictly.
The actress was one of the first to take to social media when her Strictly professional dancing fiancé Gorka and his soap star partner Katie McGlynn were booted off the BBC show.
Gorka’s partner, 36, was on-hand to offer up some supportive words while explaining that the pair hadn’t had much time at all to train.
Taking to Instagram, the mum-of-one wrote: “@katiemcglynn you should be SO proud of yourself.
“Doing those dances with practically no rehearsal time at all is incredible. I struggled with 8hrs a day never mind 3hrs. You did ace.
“The best team. You did yourself and Gorks proud.”
The former Coronation Street star and BBC pro were dressed as Cruella De Vil and Pongo as they took to the dance floor to showcase their incredible American smooth footwork.
In spite of their sassy performance they found themselves in the bottom two again – coming up against Judi Love and Graziano Di Prima.
Judges Anton Du Beke, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood had the tricky job of deciding who made it through and who didn’t.
None of the panel wanted to make a selection between the two.
Craig was first to cast his vote, as he said: “Well I think both couples did really well, and improved in the dance of itself, but there was one couple for me who shone brighter in the performance, and that is Judi and Graziano.”
Motsi went next, adding: “I think this is getting tougher and tougher every year, it was so close.
“It was a really hard decision to take, but I am just going to go with the overall positive picture which was more dance intensive, so I am going to go with Judi and Graziano.”
Anton was up next, he told the two pairs: “It really is not the nicest part of the show. I thought that both the couples danced very very well, their performances they gave this evening were very very strong.
“I just felt that one couple was cleaner than the other, and one couple made a very slight mistake. Because of that I am going to save Katie and Gorka.”
Head Judge Shirley stepped up delivering the final verdict, she said: “This is always a tough part of the job. Both couples gave it their very very best, I didn’t see any mistakes from either one, both beautiful performances.
“I am going to go with the one that I felt had more edge and more rhythm to me, so I am going to go with Judi and Graziano.”
Meanwhile over the past few weeks there had been rumours that there was tension burning in camp between Katie and Gorka – with lack of training time believed to be at the centre of their woes.
However, the former Corrie babe shot down any rumours of trouble between the pair as she took to Instagram to comment on their time spent together.
Katie wrote: “My time @bbcstrictly has been utterly magical.
“I’ve loved every second of rehearsals with @gorka_marquez and performing each week!
“I’m really gutted that my time on the show has come to an end so soon, I feel like I had so much more to give and really wanted to carry on pushing myself and learning from the professionals that I am absolutely in awe of.”
“I’m not a dancer – I’ve never really danced before in my life and this was sooo far out of my comfort zone I can’t even begin to put it into words. To be part of such an iconic entertainment show has been an absolute blast, but I think it’s time for me to get back to what I do best and love the most… acting!”
Of Gorka, she added: “And despite what you may have read, I couldn’t have asked for a better partner and I’ve had such a brilliant time with Gorks… I’ve made friends for life working on this show.”
