ITV viewers were left stunned after they spotted one contestant on The Chase who they thought looked incredibly like the former Labour Party leader, Jeremy Corbyn.
As far as we know, 72-year-old ex Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is yet to make his official debut on The Chase, but to many fans this week it looked as if the left-wing politician was in fact making a surprise feature on the popular quiz show.
During Wednesday’s show, the latest batch of four hopeful players entered the studio to try their luck against the genius Chasers to take home a big cash prize.
But one contestant in particular appeared to steal the show for everyone watching along at home due to his jaw-dropping resemblance to the famous Labour Party politician.
When 71-year-old John, a retired History teacher from Warwick, rocked up to try his luck against The Chaser first, fans couldn’t believe how much he looked like the MP.
With his bushy beard and smart teacher-like attire, the history-loving contestant could easily have been mistaken for Mr Corbyn.
Many fans immediately took to Twitter to air their disbelief at how much the player looked like the left-wing politician.
One puzzled viewer tweeted: “Is that Jeremy Corbyn?”
A second user then commented: “Doesn’t he look like Jeremy Corbyn?”
A third joined in and quipped: “I just turned on and it looks like Jeremy Corbyn is up against The Beast.”
A fourth praised the contestant and penned: “Jeremy Corbyn’s doing well today!”
When host Bradley Walsh introduced his guest to the show, John explained that he’d been a teacher for about 30 years but now he lives in Somerset and has spent his free time making apple cider with his family.
John said he wanted to spend any money he might win during the show on a trip to Japan to visit his eldest son Alexander with his wife Sue.
However, despite a successful cash-builder round where he banked £7,000, John unfortunately didn’t have much luck in the latter part of the game.
The former teacher pressed his button too late and was beaten by the clock, and he ended up losing out to Mark “The Beast” Labbett which led to him being booted off of the show.
After John left, the rest of his team – marketing manager Carol, History student Harry and eye specialist Andrea were faring well and banked £18,000 before they were eventually clipped by The Beast too in the Final Chase.
Nonetheless, Bristol student Harry showed a lot of promise as he managed to put on a spectacular performance and even beat The Beast during his opening round.
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
