The Gap Band founder Ronnie Wilson dies at his home as wife Linda held his hand

R&B legend Ronnie Wilson, founder of The Gap Band has died at his home in Tulsa.

Ronnie’s wife Linda Boulware-Wilson confirmed the news to TMZ.

The star died peacefully at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma at 10:01 am on Tuesday.

The outlet reported that Linda was holding Ronnie’s hand as he took his last breath.

It has been revealed that the 73-year-old suffered a stroke last week and put him into a semi-coma which he never recovered from.

Over the years the musical legend suffered from multiple strokes.

On social media, Linda remembered her late husband as a “genius with creating, producing and playing the flugelhorn, trumpet, keyboards and singing music.”

Ronnie was famous for being in The Gap Band with his brothers Charlie and Robert Wilson.

The band were founded in the 1970’s and followed in the footsteps of legends like Stevie Wonder, George Clinton and Earth Wind & Fire.

In the 1980’s the band signed with Mercury Records and were a huge, they were best known for their hit song, You Dropped a Bomb on Me.

The group collaborated with Lonnie Simmons to achieve national success and became top of the soul chart.

Fans were quick to share their sorrow on social media following the news.

One fan wrote: “One of the great ones has died. Tonight we say a sad goodbye to Ronnie Wilson of The Gap Band.”

Another shared a link to the band’s hit song and commented: “Prayers to the Ronnie Wilson family. Ronnie died today at the age of 73 and was one of the founding members of the Gap Band. #RIPRonnie”

“Sad to inform you that Ronnie Wilson founder of the GAP band passed away today. He was a complete joy to know!!! Please keep his family and friends in prayer. “Earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal,” wrote a third.

And a fourth Tweeted: “Man was dropping bombs back when, Rip Ronnie Wilson and thanks for the jams.”
