The One Show's Alex Jones in disbelief as her co-host suddenly walks off set

Jermaine Jones walked off set before The One Show finished filming yesterday, leaving his co-star Alex Jones alone in the studio.

The footballer, 38, stormed off set after Alex, 43, confirmed he would be missing a week of presenting in the days to come.

Alex and Jermaine will be going head to head in an upcoming Red Nose Day challenge, and the rivalry of the impending competition has started to get to them.

With just minutes to spare in the episode, Jermaine suddenly exited the studio, leaving Alex to close the show by herself.

Leaping off the sofa and walking to the wings of the studio, he turned to Alex and remarked: “That’s right – have a good one!”

Before he disappeared entirely, he managed to chuck a soft toy at Alex, shouting: “Remember, my team’s gonna be winning alright.”

Jermaine will spend the next 10 days self-isolating with his teammates ahead of the Comic Relief project, which will see him take on a 100 metre hike.

Alex will make for stiff competition, but one rule looks set to throw both BBC stars – they have to balance a red nose toy on a spoon for the duration of the trek.

Whenever the ball falls and hits the ground, each team will lose a point, making the stakes higher than ever.

Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day takes place on March 19 this year, raising much-needed funds for incredible causes and campaigns around the world.

Preparing for the competition, Jermaine will be absent from the BBC studios, leaving Westlife star Ronan Keating to take his place on the sofa.

A retired professional footballer, Jermaine started off his career as a central midfielder for teams like Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Sadly, an injury forced him into retirement, and he started landing gigs as a TV sports pundit.

After presenting spots on Match of the Day and BT Sport, he made a name for himself as a charismatic screen presence, catching the eye of The One Show’s bosses.

Last year, he became an official host alongside Alex, joining the rotating cast of presenters.

The One Show airs on weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
