Tom Fletcher has taken a cheeky dig at his Strictly dance partner Amy Dowden for risking her secret identity being exposed in front of thousands.
It is now public knowledge that McFly singer Tom has been partnered up with Strictly professional Amy, and the pair will be performing their first dance routine at the first Strictly live show on Saturday (25 September).
However, they had to keep Amy’s identity secret from the public at first as nobody was allowed to know who Tom’s dance partner was before it was finally announced by the hit BBC One show.
It turns out that Amy risked being exposed to the public as she attended one of his recent McFly gigs in Bournemouth before the public found out that she was in fact Tom’s dance partner.
Taking to Instagram to share a previously-unseen clip which was filmed after their second day of rehearsals, Tom decided to grill Amy for wearing a ‘bad disguise’ to the show – which was held at Bournemouth’s BIC arena.
In the throwback clip which saw Tom and Amy sitting in his car, Tom said: “So, we’ve just finished rehearsals – day two – and we’re on our way to the arena now but it’s not been announced yet that Amy is my partner.
Amy chimed in: “I’m going in disguise.”
Tom replied: “Going in disguise. What is your disguise?”
When Amy revealed that she had worn print, Tom mocked her by clarifiying: “But in a McFly hoodie”.
Amy burst out laughing in the car as Tom quipped: “Wasn’t the best disguise, was it Amy? You’re like a walking McFly advert.”
Holding up her McFly merchandise, Amy explained that she had worn a leopard-print dress as she showed off her disguise – a black hoodie with a white bear on it alongside the name of the band’s tour: “Young Dumb Thrills 2021”.
Tom added: “I think it was very obviously you in the McFly hoodie!”
Some eagle-eyed fans seemed to have already worked out Tom was partnered up with Amy after her shared a series of cryptic snaps which showed the star’s feet.
Tom was delighted to have been paired with Amy for this year’s series of Strictly – its 19th season.
Speaking ahead of Saturday night’s launch show, he said he was partnered with the person he wanted the most out of all of the contestants on offer.
He said: “All I will say is this is the person I wanted the second I signed up,
“I couldn’t be happier to be dancing with her.”
He added: “Really struggled on Friday. My body just wouldn’t do what I wanted it to do. I need to be mindful of this and make sure I have enough in the tank each week to put in a good performance on a Saturday night.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs 7.45 on BBC One.
