Travis Scott has been caught on video asking security at his festival to help struggling fans in the audience during a fatal crowd surge.
It comes as eight people tragically died and several were injured at the rapper’s Astroworld festival, which took place in Houston, Texas on Friday (October 4).
The violent crowd surge led to a mass panic as members of the audience pressed towards the stage.
Seventeen people were rushed to hospitals after the horror incident, eleven of which had been suffering cardiac arrest, according to fire chief Samuel Pena.
In a video clip posted on social media, Scott was seen pausing his performance in order to help a collapsed fan, and he asked his security to help the struggling audience member.
He said: “Somebody has passed out right here… don’t touch him, don’t touch him. Everybody just back up. Security, somebody help real quick.
“Somebody jump in. Come on, come on!”
Samuel Pena said that the heartbreaking incident took place around 21:15 on Friday (02:15 GMT Saturday).
The fire official told reporters: “The crowd began to compress toward the front of the stage, and people began to panic,”
He added that the crush began harming people, and panic grew among the crowd.
Scott, who was the founder of the festival, stopped multiple times during his 75-minute performance, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Around 50,000 people were understood to have attended the outdoor event, which has now been cancelled.
Footage from Travis Scott’s performance showed ambulance carts driving through the crowd as the music continued.
Other clips showed paramedics attempting to perform CPR on injured crowd members.
Lina Hidalgo, the county judge of Harris County, described the event as an “extremely tragic night”.
She said: “Our hearts are broken. People go to these events looking for a good time, a chance to unwind, to make memories – it’s not the kind of event you go to where you expect to find out about fatalities.”
The festival released a statement which read: “Our hearts are with the Astroworld family tonight – especially those we lost and their loved ones”.
Other footage from the concert appeared to show fans in the crowd jumping on an emergency vehicle.
The show was called off shortly after the huge crush occurred.
Astroworld Festival was named after Travis Scott’s hit 2018 album which reached number one in America’s Billboard chart.
The album tour rocked London’s O2 Arena in 2019, transforming almost the entire standing area into a continuous mosh pit.
