A Place in the Sun buyer branded 'snob' after comparing holiday home to 'housing estate'

A Place in the Sun fans branded a buyer ‘a snob’ after she compared a luxury holiday home in Malaga, Spain to an average property on a housing estate.

During Wednesday evening’s episode (August 10), presenter Scarlett Douglas was showing Hazel and her good friend Paula around a number of properties along Málaga’s east coast, in a bid to find her dream holiday home on a budget of £250,000.

With a “wiggle-room” of up to £300,000, Hazel was shown a property on the market for just over £307,000 that was negotiable to around £290,000.

It featured three bedrooms, an outdoor kitchen and dining area, a balcony — even a pool.

However, the property failed to impress the buyer as she claimed the interior of the main house was just like any other on a housing estate.

She said: “Very interesting. The outside space with the kitchen, the big table, the swimming pool — that is just to die for.

“But inside it just feels a little bit too much like any other house on a housing estate.”

Channel 4 fans were outraged at her summary and even branded her a ‘snob’ for even thinking such a thing.

One user said: “It feels like a housing estate? A detached property in Spain? Outside kitchen, balcony, swimming pool. Yep….just like a housing estate!”

Another added: “She’s a snob! Housing estate?”

However, some people did agree with her as a third user said: “It is any other house on a housing estate though.”

A fourth wrote: “Saying that, I found that in Spain if they didn’t have the weather it would be like any other council estate.”

In the end, Hazel went for a five-bedroom property in Caleta de Velez because she found the “views and the spaciousness” the most appealing from the selection of townhouses she visited on the show.

The property, which was on the market for just under £286,500, even featured a downstairs apartment and hot tub which Paula cheekily said would be hers.

“It goes without saying that would be my apartment,” she quipped.

Hazel put an offer in under the asking price at £260,000 but the owner refused to go lower than £276,271.

Hazel made them a counter offer of £270,000, which was again refused as the owner said they would only go as low as £271,000.

But finally, they closed in on the sale as Hazel ended the haggling, saying: “It’s a deal.”
