Aston Merrygold has passed on his best wishes to the future Prime Minister after Adil Ray branded him a political “bad luck charm” on Good Morning Britain.
During Thursday’s visit to the ITV studio, the 48-year-old and his co-host Kate Garraway welcomed viewers back to the breakfast show where they interviewed the JLS star as he promoted his new nationwide tour.
But his appearance on the show coincided with Liz Truss’ announcement that she was stepping down as Prime Minister after just 44 days in office, making her the shortest serving Prime Minister in UK history.

As they discussed his upcoming projects, the guest presenter couldn’t help but point out the last time he paid a visit to the ITV studios to chat to Lorraine Kelly back in July when then Prime Minister Boris Johnson also announced his resignation.
During his appearance on yesterday’s show, Kate mentioned: “The last time you were on the show, it happened to be that Boris Johnson resigned so could it be the same Aston effect [once again] …”
As Aston chuckled, Adil shouted: “It’s you!” as Kate echoed: “Is it you?” to which the singer reassured viewers: “I’m not causing all of this; I’m trying to resolve it.”
Just hours later the conservative leader made a short statement announcing she was stepping down with a new Prime Minister set to be elected in a week’s time.
Less than 24 hours later, entertainment reporter Richard Arnold shared the pop singer’s response to the surprising political news on the show.
The 52-year-old broadcaster introduced the segment asking: “So could Aston actually be a political bad luck charm?” before he shared the clip of the man himself which he sent on following her first performance on the 3AM tour.
Aston explained: “Listen, I had the most amazing gig in Sheffield but I should probably say it’s not my fault.

“It’s not my fault and good luck to whoever the next Prime Minister it is. I’m a bit of a bad omen, apparently.
“But I’m off to Liverpool for the next gig and like I said, when I see you next, good luck to the next Prime Minister.”
Heading back to the studio, Kate cheekily quipped: “So he’s like the equivalent of the octopus pretending. If Aston is on Good Morning Britain, there will be a political change that day.”
