BBC Breakfast fans confused as 'poor' presenter fronts show alone amid shake up

Nina Warhurst appeared to go solo as she presented BBC Breakfast on Sunday (April 17), with her co-star notably absent from the BBC studios.

Regular viewers of the news programme will know that the show is usually fronted by two anchors, with the likes of Jon Kay, Roger Johnson, Victoria Derbyshire or Katherine Downes appearing alongside a colleague.

The Sunday edition of the programme doesn’t normally see the main anchors, Naga Munchetty, Charlie Stayt or Sally Nugent take their place on the sofa.

However, as viewers tuned in on Easter Sunday (April 17), they were somewhat perplexed to see the sofa looking emptier than usual.

Business presenter and stand-in presenter, Nina Warhurst, 41, sat alone on the sofa as she delivered the day’s news, including the latest on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s appearance in The Hague.

Some viewers were left confused, noticing that Roger Johnson was absent from the show which received mixed reactions.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer tweeted: “Nina Warhurst proving that she is the only presenter we need on #BBCBreakfast.”

Before a second went on to add: “#bbcbreakfast Is poor old Nina on her own this morning? Where’s Roger?”

“#bbcbreakfast is so much better with just one autocue reader on the sofa. No tedious banter,” commented another.

A fourth penned: “I’m furious, I only watch it for the tedious bits!”

“#bbcbreakfast She’s much better when she’s not forced to partake in childish banter,” wrote another.

During the programme, Nina explained that working the early shift on Easter Sunday has its perks, saying: “If you’ve done the early shift, you’re allowed an extra egg.”

The programme descended into chaos last week when Nina was filming from a busy warehouse in Birmingham as she reported on inflation rates.

Presenters Charlie Stayt and Sally Nugent could not have seen what was coming as Nina was almost swept off her feet by a worker.

But as Nina concluded: “As we said earlier, the predictions from the Bank of England is that inflation will go even higher, higher than eight per cent, in the coming months.

“They will potentially use interest rates in the meantime to bring it down.”

She added: “We get the latest figures at seven o’clock, as I said – expect it to go higher than six point seven per cent. We’ll be back with you then.”

In the background as Nina prepared to deliver her parting words to the camera, a group of male workers could be seen chatting as one attempted to steer a pallet truck forward – right to where Nina was standing.

But she was cut off as the trolley went to move past her, and looked briefly startled as she jumped out of the way before the camera lost her entirely.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
