BBC Breakfast anchor Nina Warhurst has taken to social media, revealing her dad’s dementia has taken a turn for the worst as he “couldn’t quite place her”.
The broadcaster, 41, often shares very little about her life outside of her Breakfast role but took to her Instagram page to give her followers an update on her dad’s condition.
However, while Nina appeared to have a laugh and giggle with her dad, she also shared the devasting impact dementia is having on her family.

The Business and Consumer presenter shared a snap of herself alongside her dad as they both smiled for the camera.
Alongside the adorable snap, she penned: “My Dad. I missed him so much this week. Dementia means he’s here – but not here.
“Today was the first time he couldn’t quite place me.
“Then he got out a new glasses case. He was clearly chuffed with it but knew it was funny to be chuffed with a new glasses case.
“I can’t explain it, but we caught eyes and laughed and laughed about the glasses case.”
She continued: “In some ways, he taught me to laugh. Properly from the tummy. And to laugh at myself.
“We’re all holding on to those deep-rooted connections for as long as we can.
“Dementia isn’t the end. It’s the start of a new chapter.
“So much respect for his key worker today who told me that it’s all about cherishing those connections, instead of missing the ones we’ve lost.
“The staff are superstars and it means the world.”

Her upload which has raked in over 900 likes was flooded with messages of support from fellow BBC colleagues and viewers.
“Love this. Sending hugs. Your Dad looks like such a top bloke,” commented Ben Thompson.
While Gethin Jones added: “Nina. I so understand this. Cherish cherish cherish.”
“Thanks for sharing this. You’ll be helping so many people without even knowing,” penned Josh Parry.
Before a viewer typed: “I remember when my dad didn’t place me for the first time and it was hard but I learned to absolutely cherish any connections. A lovely post.”
“Use humour as much as you can, it overrides most of the bad stuff and maintains the connection,” added another.
Meanwhile, Nina recently scolded her co-anchor Charlie Stayt, claiming the male anchors on Breakfast need to up their game.
