With an incredible montage to kick off the show fans were immediately left in awe as the glamorous show hit screens at the slightly later time of 7:45pm.

As the judges walked out to kick off the show, everyone was dressed to the nines – but not all fans at home were quite so fond of head judge Shirley Ballas’ outfit.

Fans were torn over Shirley’s dress

Shirley, who opted for an incredibly glamorous vibe as she donned glittery eyeshadow paired with a dazzling red lip and opted for a classic high bun, donned quite a controversial dress.

The star opted for a golden floor-length gown with ruffles from head to toe and a pleat material as it cinched in at her waist.

While many viewers gushed over her sensational look, some were a lot less pleased by her ensemble.

Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: “Has Shirley come as a Quality Street?”

Viewers didn’t hold back

While another added: “Shirley: A glam reminder to stock up on Quality Street for Christmas.”

A third claimed they thought she looked like a “toffee”, while others immediately shut down the brutal comments with one person writing on her Instagram photo: “Wow a moment for the dress!!! You look beautiful.”

Another added: “Pretty, stunning, glamorous lady.”

While Shirley’s outfit divided her fans, she didn’t have a care in the world as she frolicked on the dance floor with her fellow judges before taking up her usual seat in the theatre.

Shirley has sat in the theatre as a judge numerous times since joining the panel on the BBC One show – but the star has also danced there.

Ahead of Saturday (November 19) show, Shirley gushed over the memories from the Tower Ballroom 50 years ago as she shared old snaps with her followers.

The location has a special place in Shirley’s heart – as well as being a huge milestone for all Strictly contestants too.
