Blackpink become first K-Pop group to headline major UK festival in huge move

BLACKPINK are set to be the first K-Pop group to headline a major UK festival after they were announced for London’s BST Hyde Park.

The South Korean girl group – made up of members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa – recently scored a UK No1 album with Born Pink, and will perform two sold-out shows at the O2 Arena this winter.

Now they have been confirmed for BST Hyde Park, playing the annual event on Sunday, July 2.

The group have joined the likes of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Billy Joel and P!nk on next summer’s line-up so far.

This year’s line-up saw Elton John hit the stage as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, The Rolling Stones reuniting for two shows and global superstar Adele bringing an all-female cohort to the park.

BLACKPINK’s latest album, Born Pink, reached No1 on the UK Album Chart when it was released in September, while its lead single Shut Down peaked at No24 in the UK.

Meanwhile, the pre-release single Pink Venom – BLACKPINK’s first new music as a four-piece in over a year – peaked at No22 in the UK Singles chart.

The music video for Pink Venom racked up 90.4million views within the first 24 hours, making it the biggest video launch on YouTube in 2022.

BLACKPINK have had an incredible few years since reaching global popularity, with members Lisa and Rosé making their solo debuts in 2021.

Jisoo, who is still awaiting her solo debut, has also turned her hand to acting, appearing in the K-Drama Snowdrop, which is available to stream on Disney+ in the UK.

And Jennie has been teasing a new solo song on the group’s world tour – Born Pink – which kicked off in South Korea this month.

The group also performed at ever-popular US festival Coachella back in 2019, becoming the first female K-Pop group to do so.

The four-piece head to Europe in November, with their two dates at London’s O2 selling out within just a few minutes.

Luckily, those who missed out will have another chance at seeing them live with their BST Hyde Park appearance.
