Viewers of ITV’s popular talent show Britain’s Got Talent were left irritated within minutes after David Walliams opened the show with a skit, much to fan’s dismay.
As the show began, the judges noticed that the Golden Buzzer was missing from their panel.
Judges Alesha Dixon, who wore an orange blazer, Amanda Holden, who wore a yellow dress, and Simon Cowell, who wore a black top, looked around in disbelief as they tried to locate the iconic piece of equipment.
The Golden Buzzer is available to the judges to use as a way to send their one favourite acts straight through to the final stages of the competition.
As they looked around the venue with hosts Ant and Dec, who appeared from the stage wings, suddenly they found it where they least expected.
Fellow judge David Walliams was suspended by invisible wires as he appeared above their heads.
He was lowered on to the stage in a costume, wearing a large golden dome with a matching hat, dressed as the Golden Buzzer itself.
Despite his attempts at the gag, audiences at home weren’t impressed with his joke.
Some disgruntled viewers turned to Twitter and one wrote: “Why has Britain’s Got Talent just become the David show at this point?”
Another said: “What a way to open the show.”
However, another wrote: “David Walliams deserves a damehood,” after seeing his glee at a pantomime dame act.
Even though fans were divided over David’s opening act, the show went on and eventually the dames seemed to perk everyone up.
Their leading character stepped on stage and told the judges that they aim to “teach people how to be themselves” through their comedic show.
The ensemble instantly won over the judges with their garish outfits and outrageous lyrics whilst they danced and sang on stage.
The group sang a parody rendition of The Weather Girls’ It’s Raining Men, which both viewers and audience members absolutely loved.
David’s fellow judges poked fun at him and said that the act would be right up his street, but he jokingly played hard to please when it came to the crunch.
Eventually the act received four firm yes votes from all the judges and the audience seemed equally as pleased.
