Corrie Bridget star Beth Vyse’s life – comedy career, cancer battle and rival soap roles

Actress Beth Vyse is the newest cast member of the hit soap Coronation Street.

The actress and comedian is set to join the cobbles as Bridget, Stuart Carpenter’s (played by Bill Fellows) long-lost daughter. Stuart is a former homeless man who was integral to helping the police in nailing Corey Brent for killing Seb Franklin.

And although the character later found happiness as he met Yasmeen Nazir (played by Shelley King) and got a job in the Speed Daal kitchen, there was one aspect of his life which was still very much on his mind.

Before Corrie, Beth has had a 20 year career in the industry. She first trained as an actress at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama since then she has worked extensively on a variety of projects.

She’s worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and has performed at venues up and down the country including Birmingham Rep, Liverpool Everyman, The Arcola, Soho Theatre and in the West End.

She is also an experienced voice-over artist, and has previously voiced campaigns for Co-Op, Finnebrogue – Naked Bacon, The Hairy Bikers, and has even narrated TV shows such as Channel 4’s Celebrity Psyche Test.

But it’s her other TV experience that sets her apart and makes her perfect for the cobbles, she’s previously appeared in dramas such as Holby City, A Touch of Frost, Spooks and she’s also appeared several times on Radio 4 and in the Doctor Who radio series.

However Corrie is not her only soap experience, as she also played the role of Cherry Adamson in the rival show Doctors in 2012.

Aside from the drama experience, Beth’s life has not been plain sailing as she was previously diagnosed with cancer at the age of 29.

Beth was previously diagnosed with cancer at the age of 29, inspiring her move into comedy where she has embarked on a national tour with her show, As Funny As Cancer.

But by her own admission she had to “react, reassess, and ultimately change” her path, and it was this medical shock that inspired her love of writing and performing comedy.

Since then, Beth went on to create several critically acclaimed Edinburgh Shows, and has also performed in other esteemed events such as Latitude Festival, and New Zealand Comedy Festival.

The comedian also recently finished a national tour with her show As Funny As Cancer.
