Coronation Street fans were gobsmacked at scenes of characters taking drugs being broadcast before the 9pm watershed.
Abi Webster (Sally Carman) took cocaine with her dealer Dean Turnbull – and her stash of the Class A drug was displayed on the screen.
The ITV soap returned to screens with plenty of drama on Sunday night’s (March 6) hour-long episode, which included drug-taking, dates and surprisingly-tense chess matches.
However, Abi suffered a devastating drugs relapse this week after struggling to cope with new of her affair spreading around town.
Abi cheated on her husband Kevin (Michael Le Vell) at the end of last year, but he finally found out about her betrayal when he overheard a phone call between her and Sally (Sally Dynevor).

It’s caused Abi to indulge in self-destructive behaviours like taking cocaine, and she asked her drug dealer Dean to rack up another line of the Class A drug.
The pair had been getting high at the house she shared with her husband Kevin, who had originally wanted to see if they could patch their relationship up.
Kevin was outraged to find Abi’s drugs on a family photo, and he fumed at his wife for “chopping up lines on a picture of my son.”
Abi replied: “Once a junkie, always a junkie. You knew what you were getting in to.”

And Abi’s downward spiral continued as Kevin told her they were over, and she and Dean continued to take drugs together at 13 Coronation Street.
In one scene Dean was seen sniffing a substance as Abi asked: “Err what am I chopped liver? Where’s mine?”
However, fans weren’t pleased about such obvious drug-taking being shown on their screens on a Sunday before the 9pm watershed, and they complained about the moment on Twitter.
One fan wrote: “I don’t want to see someone sniffing drugs thank you”

A second said: “Drug taking before 9pm on #corrie”
A third replied: “I came here to see if anyone was thinking the same!”
A fourth penned: “Drug parties taking place on #Corrie #terrible… do we have a resident pot smoker?”
A fifth said: “Drug, infidelity, stalking, murder and chess……………… the drama never ends lol!!”
A sixth complained: “Abi, don’t do it! Don’t take a drugs.”

There was more drama to come after Dean stole Kevin’s garage keys and took a customer’s car.
nd as he roared off with Abi in the vehicle, who was trying to stop him, there was a shock as she went into labour at the side of the road.
Abi thought a pregnancy scare after her fling with Imran Habeeb last year had been a false alarm.
In 2018 fans were left shocked by previous drug use scenes when vicar Billy Mayhew turned to heroin inside church to ease his pain after surviving a horror fall from a cliff edge.
In pre-watershed scenes, Billy was seen slumped in a haze with his drug dealer brother Lee next to pews in the church having both taken the illegal Class A drug.
