Coronation Street star Millie Gibson has finally confirmed the real reason she decided to quit the ITV soap – and confessed her parents didn’t support the decision.
It’s a big week next week for her character Kelly Neelan, as she discovers that Gary Windass is the one who really killed her father Rick – and vows to get revenge by hiring a hitman.
But things quickly start to go wrong, leaving Kelly’s life in danger too as she and Gary face a final rooftop showdown.

Opening up to Daily Star about her final scenes, Millie admitted she “couldn’t stop crying”, but knew she needed to leave to “spread her wings”.
She confessed: “My last scene with Mikey [North], I couldn’t stop crying. I’ve never cried on a film set before, but even running the lines I was choking up.
“It was such a hard scene, but I’m so excited to see it because it’s a really good scene, it wraps it all up – but it’s very sad.”
The star admitted that her real reason for leaving Corrie is that she has “no responsibilities” – meaning she can take a leap of faith with little risk.
She said: “Corrie is just a home. That’s the best way I can describe it, it’s a home. And because I’m so young, I just thought I need to leave home for a bit and spread my wings and see what could happen.
“I have no responsibilities, I don’t have kids or a mortgage to pay or anything like that yet, I’m still grateful to be living at home. So I’m going to see what else the world has, and if it [works out], it does. That would be quite good, wouldn’t it?
“I just thought I may as well see what happens while I’m still young. But I’m going to miss Corrie so much.”
Millie, 18, added: “It was a decision which would always be in the back of my mind if I didn’t make it, so I need to go with it and see what happens.”
But her parents weren’t quite as onboard with her decision.
She explained: “When I first thought, ‘This is going to be the year where I [quit]’, my mum and dad were like, ‘Are you sure? It’s such a secure place and you’re doing great, you’ve having great storylines.’

“And I said, ‘I know, but I’ve got to trust my gut and my instincts.’ I went with it without them even being on board at first, but as soon as I began to convince them they were like, ‘Fine we’ll accept it.’
“It was one of them where I just had to make the decision by myself and go with it and hope for the best.”
What will Millie miss most about the coveted cobbles? She says the people.
“I’ll miss the routine of it all, walking into the building and knowing the person on the desk, just the familiarity of it all!
“I’ll miss Kelly, the cast, the canteen people, the cleaners, the crew. I could go on but I’ll bore you! I bang on about it as much as I can but it’s like leaving a family, so it’s sad.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
