Country and ‘Before I Knew Better’ singer Brad Martin dies aged 48 as tributes pour in

Brad Martin, the country singer famous for his song Before I Knew Better, has died at age the age 48.

The singer-songwriter, who scored one solo hit in the early 2000s died on Friday (March 11), his family and friends confirm.

A cause of death has not been revealed yet.

However, a GiveSendGo had been created on Martin’s behalf after he experienced a work-related injury in January.

Mark’s friend Martin Ramey took to Facebook to share the news of Martin’s death and led with a heartfelt tribute.

He wrote: “I can’t believe I’m saying this.. My dear friend and music brother Brad Martin passed away this afternoon.. I am heartbroken.

“Rock on my brother!!! You were a great friend, true talent and it was an honor making music with you!!”

Martin grew up in Ohio and learned to play guitar at an early age.

He moved to Nashville in his mid-20s to pursue his dream of a country music career.

Martin signed to Epic Records in 2000 and he released his debut album, Wings of a Honky-Tonk Angel, in 2002.

He then joined singer-songwriter John Ramey to form a duo called Martin Ramey, which signed to Curb Records in 2008 and released a single titled “Twisted” in 2010.

Fans have taken to social media to pay their respect.

One fan tweeted: “RIP Martin, i remember hearing your hit when it first came out.”

Another penned: “Such sad news, sending love to your close family and friends.”

A third wrote: “Oh no Brad Martin passed away! such a sad day.”

Martin’s cousin, Emily Barton, posted a statement to her Facebook page as well to share the devastating news.

She penned: “My cousin, Brad Martin, went to be with Jesus yesterday. It just doesn’t seem real.

“There are so many memories with him growing up. Brad loved to tease and pick on us. He always had that grin on his face. He was a handsome man with a beautiful voice.”

Emily continued: “I was proud of him for all he had accomplished with his singing and songwriting career.

“Brad is in heaven with his dad and all our family that had gone before him who knew and loved Jesus. I know he had an amazing homecoming surrounding by them all.

“Please send prayers for his family and friends during this difficult time.”

More than $4,000 of the $50,000 goal has been raised for Brad so far.
