ITV viewers were left incredibly upset during the latest episode of DNA Journey after Christopher Dean opened up on the reason his mother left home.
The professional figure skater was joined by his dance partner Jayne Torvill as they journeyed around the country to find their roots.
But Chris left several fans heartbroken when he shared that his mother, Mavis Dean, left the family home when he was six years old due to an alleged affair that his father had.
He then revealed that his stepmother walked into the family home the same day.
Seeing Chris be so open about his previous struggles, fans who were unaware of his past flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts.
One person penned: “Christopher’s story is a very sad,” followed by a crying emoji.
Another emotional viewer shared: “Feeling sad for Chris’s Mum. Sounds like she didn’t leave because she wanted to if ‘StepMum’ moved in the same day!”
A third surprised spectator said: “Incredible story about Christopher Dean’s origins. Never knew.”
While talking to Jayne, Chris revealed that he did eventually reconnect with his mother several years later.
He even confessed that she would come to watch him while he was on Dancing on Ice.
Christopher explained to Jayne that due to his mother’s lack of presence in his life, he’s become more “independent” as an adult.
The dancers previously told publications that although his relationship with his stepmother was hard, he admired his dad and described him as hard-working.
Chris previously said: “Losing my mum and being an only child definitely went some way to making me who I am today.
“I’ve always been very independent and emotionally quite self-reliant. Yes, I’m driven, and if I get it in my head to do something I’ll always give it my best shot. But everything I do, I do with consideration.
He added: “My dad was my constant in life, he was my hero. The one person I knew who would always be there for me. That alone was monumentally important after my mum left.”
