Former This Morning presenter Eamonn Holmes has revealed the devastating reason why he split from his first wife after being married for 10 years.
Although the 62-year-old is currently married to his wife Ruth Langsford since 2010, he was first romantically linked to Gabrielle Holmes, who is the mother of his three children.
In his 2008 book, This is My Life: The Autobiography, Eamonn recalled the reasons behind his marriage breakdown from Gabrielle in 1996.
Despite describing the divorce as “amicable” the TV presenter also confessed that their relationship broke down due to the untimely death of Eamonn’s father.
He penned: “Gabrielle was increasingly indifferent and I didn’t know why.
“I needed her close, I needed her to reach me and ease my pain, but she had concerns of her own, principal of which was an impending birth.”
The presenter also spoke openly about how his blossoming broadcasting career had an impact on his marriage.
Eamonn admitted that the couple tended to be apart during the week due to his busy schedule, stating that he had “no trouble with that – though Gabrielle obviously did.”
He said: “That was the first time I realised there wasn’t that emotional support there for me, though I probably had suspected it.”
After his divorce from Gabrielle, with whom he shares his three children Declan, Rebecca and Niall, Eamonn went on to marry Ruth. The couple share one son together named Jack.
Eamonn and Ruth both presented ITV’s This Morning alongside each other for a number of years, however, the father-of-four has now moved to rival channel GB News.
The much-loved couple were both removed from their regular Friday slot on This Morning in 2021 and were replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.
However, a source reportedly told The Mirror that Eamonn’s move will come as an end of an era, after he hosted the programme for 15 years.
The source claimed: “Eamonn’s move to GB News marks the end of an era.
“He’ll be missed by many ITV viewers but, the truth is, this job offer probably came at just the right moment for both him and ITV. All good things come to an end.”
