EastEnders' Chrissie Watts 'to return and take over Queen Vic' 17 years after soap exit

EastEnders fans are convinced Chrissie Watts is set to make an explosive return to Walford.

Actress Tracy-Ann Oberman played the role of Dirty Den’s wife from 2004 until 2005 and appeared in 218 episodes.

During her stint in Albert Square, she was landlady of the Queen Vic.

Chrissie featured in numerous storylines but she is mostly remembered for killing husband Den, a crime which she eventually sent to prison for.

Since the return of Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf), who featured heavily in the Dirty Den murder storyline, fans of the BBC One soap have longed for Chrissy to make a comeback.

Tracy-Ann, 55, reached out to EastEnders producer Chris Clenshaw on Thursday (April 28) on Twitter.

She took to social media to ask Chris to give her a follow on the mirco-blogging site.

Fans were quick to spot the message and rushed to their keyboards to predict Chrissie’s big return.

She wrote: “@chris_clenshaw Hi Chris can you give me a follow please.”

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Chrissie will be back by the end of 2022 you heard it here first.”

Another added: “We need @TracyAnnO to return as Chrissie Watts @bbceastenders take notes. Having #KimMedcalf return as Sam is a perfect opportunity.

While a third social media user said: “Omg??? please bring back Chrissie Watt.s I’m begging.”

Another added: “This would be an awesome return. Possibly a new owner of the Vic?”

In 2005, Chrissie was the focus of one of “the programme’s biggest and most high-profile narratives” when she murdered her husband Den in self-defence at the end of the special 20th anniversary episode.

The broadcast was watched by 14.34 million people – with “almost 60% of possible viewers” tuning in to see Chrissie killing Den.

Chrissie became well known for her deviousness and “scheming”, echoing the traits of her husband, with the EastEnders website characterising her as “happy to play mind games” and “often two steps ahead” of Den.

Actor Danny Dyer has confirmed that he’s leaving his role as current Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter later this year.

With the popular boozer up for grabs, fans will have to wait and see if Chrissie comes back to take over as the new landlady.

Den’s daughter Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) is also still living in Albert Square.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
