EastEnders star Steve McFadden is a soap icon thanks to his role as bad boy Phil Mitchell.
The actor, 63, made his first appearance as the Mitchell brother in 1990 and cemented himself as EastEnders royalty a long time ago.
Phil has made plenty of enemies during his time in Albert Square, his most recent being DCI Keeble who’s made it her mission to avenge her father who died at the hands of Phi’s father, Eric Mitchell.

As of 2022, website Celebrity Net Worth claims Steve McFadden’s net worth is a whopping £3.5 million – a staggering figure is which is no doubt down to his role of Phil Mitchell
He is rumoured to be earning between around the £300,000 for the role which put him on the map back in the early 90s’.
Steve is amongst the biggest paid stars on the soap alongside Danny Dyer who announced he was leaving his role as Mick Carter earlier this year.
How long has Steve McFadden been in EastEnders?
Steve first appeared as the cockney icon in February 1990 and was soon followed by his family, prompting the beginning of the Mitchell’s reign on Albert Square.
The legendary family dominated EastEnders throughout the 90s’ and in 2001, Phil became the central character in a Who Dunnit storyline, with the ‘Who Shot Phil’ culprit reveal-episode raking in 22 million viewers.
He took a 15-month break from the soap 2003, with Phil heading on the run after breaking out of prison to avoid serving time for an armed robbery he was framed for.
The BBC star returned in 2005 and – in characteristically hard-man style – he said a few words about his comeback.
“I can’t wait to get back to EastEnders and settle a few scores,” he said.
What are Steve McFadden’s other acting credits?
While Steve is no doubt best known for Phil Mitchell, he’s embarked on plenty of other projects aside from the BBC soap.
His first acting gig came before joining EastEnders as he landed a small role in the 1989 BBC Television film The Firm.
This was followed by appearances in police drama The Bill and BBC crime drama Bergerac.
In 2000, the actor starred in the iconic coming of age comedy film Kevin & Perry Go Large and one year later, appeared in an episode of Murder in Mind.
The dad-of-five has also taken to the stage several times over the years in countless pantomimes.
His reason for leaving EastEnders was reportedly because he wanted to focus on pantomimes and it has something he’s continued over the years alongside playing Phil.
Speaking about playing Captain Hook in 2017, Steve said: “It’s lovely to have the live audience and it’s a completely different skillset, so they’re barely comparable.
“That said I do bring some Phil Mitchell onto the stage, and a bit of Steve and a bit of Hook as well, that’s what people get! A bit of fear and a bit of fun.”
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
