Emmerdale fans found themselves rather distracted this week as David Metcalfe underwent a hair transformation.
David was out in the village discussing the sale of his shop with ex Leyla Cavanagh, after putting the official For Sale signs up. But while Leyla reassured him nobody would buy the shop before Christmas, David was left forlorn.
Fans, however, weren’t so concerned with the shop’s success, as they noticed actor Matthew Wolfenden had had a haircut – and looked totally unrecognisable.

Taking to Twitter with their thoughts, one fan said: “Has David had a haircut since last night?”
Another echoed: “Liking David’s new haircut, he just needs to stop whinging…”
Unable to resist a quip about his current crisis, a third fan chimed in: “David had enough money for a haircut!”
As somebody else penned: “David’s hair looks sooo different but can’t decide whether that’s a good or bad thing…”
Others chipped in about David’s current disaster after dad Eric Pollard refused to bail him out.
One wrote: “If only David had shown as much interest in his business as his love life he wouldn’t have to sell up!”
“Oh David’s shop is going bust, let me just find a sh** to give… oh I can’t find any! I don’t know why #Emmerdale keep giving him screen time,” someone else fumed.
Later in the episode, David confirmed that he’s spoken to step-son Jacob and decided to sell the house as well as the shop.

It could even herald Matthew’s eventual exit from the soap as fans theorised David could leave the village for good.
One questioned: “Wonder whether David will be leaving the village?”
“David & Leyla can ride off into the sunset together,” another Twitter user said.
However, someone else theorised: “David will clearly end up taking over the B&B but who will have the shop?”
Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7.30pm on ITV1.
