Emmerdale Meena's Dawn murder 'sealed' as Billy star teases 'no happy ending' for couple

It’s all about to kick off in Emmerdale next week, as Billy Fletcher and Dawn Taylor prepare to exchange vows in a romantic Valentine’s Day wedding.

But unbeknownst to them, serial killer Meena Jutla is lurking nearby, just waiting to wreak havoc on their intimate ceremony.

And actor Jay Kontzle, who plays Billy, has promised there’s “no likelihood” of a happy ending for the pair, as he compared his character to the “grim reaper”.

Next week, tense scenes are set to air as Meena kidnaps Billy and Dawn, takes them to a remote viaduct and taunts them with her gun. She soon informs them that the newlyweds are set to play a little game, with Billy choosing to save either himself or Dawn.

Though Billy tells Dawn that he would always take a bullet for her, Meena isn’t swayed by their show of affection and raises her gun… and someone is shot.

There likely will be no happy ending for Billy and Dawn

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, Jay explained: “Billy would be gutted if Dawn dies. I’ve said this loads of times, but I always seem to be surrounded by death – I’ve watched so many different characters die, I feel like the grim reaper!

“I think Billy would lose his head. Dawn’s the love of his life, and he’d be absolutely lost [if she died]. It’s a similar thing with Billy, his dad died and he only had his mum – now she’s obviously left for Dubai – so he’s missing a parent.

“So to see Lucas left without a mum would be the biggest heartbreak for him, and I don’t think he can cope with that.”

But do the newlyweds stand any chance of having a happy ending? Jay doesn’t think so.

He explained: “Everyone loves that dynamic of the two of them and wants them to get together. Everyone wants the Meena situation to resolve!

“I think from day one, a lot of the audience has warmed to the characters, and during the pandemic everyone wants to see a bit of happiness.

“So fingers crossed we get past all this, get married and then it’s happy days from then on – but you know, it is the village, so the likelihood of that happening is like 10 percent!”

Dawn star Olivia Bromley added: “I feel like there has been so much positivity about Billy and Dawn together. It’s interesting because I feel like the characters naturally mesh together, and people want to see some happiness for the two of them, they’d like to see a positive story play out – but who knows whether it will!”

And asked whether Dawn could defend herself against killer Meena, Olivia thinks it isn’t physical strength that matters.

She explained: “Dawn obviously had a previous situation with Malone, where she had to get herself out of a really life threatening situation that ended in her killing him in self defence.

“But that has haunted her in a way that she hasn’t managed to get over. Psychologically, it has caused her a lot of issues. Would she be able to defend herself again, I don’t know! Would she be able to take it that far?

“But if it was a fight between Meena and Dawn, hands down Dawn would win. She’s scrappy – she’d just absolutely batter her!”

Emmerdale airs weeknights from 7pm on ITV.
