Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi has hinted that the return of serial killer Meena Jutla could push Dr Liam Cavanagh over the edge after he found out the truth about his daughter’s murder.
Liam was driven to murder himself when he first discovered Meena’s evil deed, stealing into the forest after her intent on killing her – but she got away.
Now that Meena has succeeded in shooting Liam’s wife Leyla, actress Roxy has insisted that this could be the thing to finally push Liam over the edge after months of depression.
Speaking to Daily Star and other press, she explained: “How much more can the man take?
“I don’t know what to say other than more devastation, I don’t think it can get any worse for him. It could push him over the edge for sure. I think he’s been on the edge for a long time.”
But she insisted Leyla wouldn’t want Liam to go after Meena himself, as she said: “I think when Leyla is in her most rational state of mind she wouldn’t want Liam to ever jeopardise his freedom. She knows that isn’t something Leanna would ever want him to do either.”
That wouldn’t stop Leyla herself from taking revenge, however, as she added: “If Leyla in this moment had a chance to kill her, she would.”
The potentially fatal experience does, however, have the capacity to bring the pair closer together emotionally – if Leyla survives being shot by Meena.
Roxy teased: “I think it’s another opportunity for Liam and Leyla to become closer after Leanna’s death kind of pulled them apart.
“Going through this – as awful and horrendous as it is – really unites them, so there’s that deeper, emotional element to their relationship going on alongside all that action.”
She promised of the storyline: “It doesn’t end here – it just keeps going.”
But what does Roxy want for her character in the future?
“I’d like her to have a bit of fun. I doubt very much that’s going to happen given everything that’s going on, but I think it’d be really nice to have Leyla in some fun clothes with some new friends, accidentally walking into walls and wearing heels that she can’t walk in.
“Things like that – just some lighthearted comedy. But I don’t know whether that will be coming any time soon!”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30pm on ITV
