Friends star Mike Hagerty has died at the age of 67.
The actor famously portrayed Monica, Joey, Chandler and Rachel’s building superintendent Mr. Treeger on the beloved sitcom which ran from 1994 – 2004.
While the cause of Mike’s death remains unknown, the sad news was shared by his recent Somebody Somewhere co-star Bridget Everett.
Posting to Instagram, the Trainwreck actress shared a message from her late co-star’s family.
It reads: “With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles.
“A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life.
“Mike, a devoted husband, is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty [and] her wife Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg.
“He will be sorely missed.”
In a personal tribute of her own, Bridget described Mike as “funny” and “adored”.
Sharing pictures of herself with Mike, she wrote: “I loved Mike the instant I met him. He was so special.
“Warm, funny, never met a stranger. We are devastated he has passed.”
Mike has been further remembered by fans online.
One admirer wrote: “RIP Mike Hagerty. I was so charmed by him in Overboard, the consummate good friend.”
Another commented: “Mike Hagerty is so good in Somebody Somewhere and this is incredibly sad news.”
Mike began his acting career in 1973, scoring his big break alongside Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell in the classic romantic-comedy Overboard in 1987.
In 1995, Mike joined the cast of Friends as the notoriously grumpy building superintendent Mr. Treeger.
A recurring cast member, he made his final appearance on the sitcom during its eighth season.
Mike also starred in hit films including Red Heat and Wayne’s World.
Over recent years, the late actor featured as Captain McGintley on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and was a recurring cast member on Somebody Somewhere’s first season.
