Fuming Tipping Point fans slam 'unjust' ITV show as 'cleverest' player gets eliminated

Tipping Point fans have slammed the ‘unjust’ quiz show as the “cleverest” player was eliminated in the latest episode.

Friday’s edition (August 12) of the ITV programme saw players Melissa and David advance to the penultimate head-to-head round.

After answering every question correctly in the round, David’s unlucky counter fall meant he was eliminated instead of Melissa – and online Tipping Point fans were left furious.

Posting to Twitter, viewers swiftly shared their complaints that the smartest contestant had not gone through.

One fan wrote: “There’s no justice,” while another complained: “I’m not having that. Poor David.”

Meanwhile, a third raged: “David got them all right. David is cleverest – that’s not right.”

A fourth added: “Grr! He should be in the final!”

A fifth fan demanded: “Melissa, forfeit your position and send David through.”

Also left in disbelief at the wild turn of events was Tipping Point host Ben Shephard.

Following David’s elimination, the 47-year-old presenter shared his thoughts on the “extraordinary” round.

Of the “very twisted” Tipping Point machine, he said: “Sometimes, people get all the way through, and sometimes they don’t – but what you’ve managed to do though [Melissa] is extraordinary.

“Sadly, David, you’ve come up short.

“You answered every single question, you dropped in every single counter.

“Unfortunately for you, Melissa’s lead was just too strong and that’s the main reason of the game.”

Melissa advanced alone to the final round of the game, where she failed to take out the jackpot counter.

Asked by Ben if she would like to risk a trade and try and take home the £10k counter, Melissa refused and took home a cash pot of £2,250.

Explaining her decision, she said: “I’m not going to take the risk because that is a lot of money for me and I couldn’t risk it.”

Tipping Point airs from 4pm on weekdays on ITV.
