Good Morning Britain fans fumed at host Adil Ray as they accused him of asking a “stupid question” to two tearful Ukrainian doctors just hours after the tragic loss of their friends in Ukraine overnight.
Susanna Reid and the 47-year-old broadcaster appeared on the popular ITV morning show on Monday (28 February) as they welcomed doctor Kateryna and Oleksandr onto the show to discuss the latest developments in the European country.
The pair who currently reside near the country’s capital, Kyiv, have explained why they have decided to remain in the country despite the conflict so Oleksandr can enlist in the army and Kateryna can much-needed provide medical support to injured victims.
But many viewers who tuned into the show were outraged at Adil’s questions over the pair’s late friends who had recently passed away in the conflict.
Susanna opened the interview as she asked how the pair were coping, which Kateryna explained: “This morning was difficult for us because last night was very tough. There were a lot of sirens last night.
“It’s also difficult s this night we stayed at home because the bomb shelter was full. There was no space for us. It was difficult for us.”
As the pair discussed the terrifying moment the couple struggled to get into a bomb shelter, Adil then interrupted to say: “Oleksandr, we’ve also heard you’ve had some very sad news overnight that friends of yours – I believe in the north – over rocket fire.
“That must be really, really hard for you to accept and take in at this point.”
It was at this point that the camera panned back to the duo who were left speechless at the devastating statement on the show.
As Oleksandr started to cry, Adil added: “You don’t have to say anything. We don’t want you to get upset and can see how hard this might be. Our thoughts are with you.
“It must be – for you going through and just trying to stay alive, and survive, and not only that, you’re helping others – and then to hear about your friends the other side of the country, it must be very difficult.”
Kateryna then confessed that it was a difficult time for the pair as they battled with their own emotions amid the Russia Ukraine conflict.
And viewers were quick to call out the presenter over the “stupid question” as many branded it “disgusting” online.
One user wrote: “@GMB what a stupid question. Your friends have been killed how do you feel? What a tosser.”
Another agreed: “Your line of questioning is disgusting,” as a third chimed in with: “What a stupid question to ask! Have a bloody heart.”
“#gmb FFS Adil. Are you happy that you got the reaction you wanted now?” a fourth person asked.
