Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to be “front and centre” of the Platinum Jubilee’s second day.
Naga Munchetty hosted BBC Breakfast live from outside St. Paul’s Cathedral in London on Friday (June 2) ahead of the St. Paul’s thanksgiving service for the Queen.
The thanksgiving service is the central focus of the second Jubilee day, after the historic Trooping the Colour parade on Thursday saw a stunning flypast from RAF jets.
Naga spoke to the BBC’s royal correspondent Daniela Relph about what role Harry and Meghan would have during the thanksgiving service.
The royal pundit explained the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would take a step forward after being “behind the scenes” at the Trooping the Colour parade.
Whilst the Sussexes did appear at the Trooping the Colour ceremony, they were not stood on the balcony with the Queen during the event with the likes of Prince William and Kate.
They were instead placed in a separate building with a “wider royal party” during the parade.
Naga asked Daniela: “We did catch a glimpse of the Sussex’s as well, Harry and Meghan.”
The royal pundit replied: “They will be here today and we will see them in more of an official capacity with the rest of the royal family arriving.
“They were there yesterday but slightly behind the scenes. Today [Friday] they will be front and centre.”
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said non-working members of the royal family would not be invited to attend the balcony during the parade.
They told Bazaar: “After careful consideration, The Queen has decided this year’s traditional Trooping the Colour balcony appearance on Thursday 2nd June will be limited to Her Majesty and those Members of the Royal Family who are currently undertaking official public duties on behalf of The Queen.”
Harry and Meghan will join senior royals such as Prince Charles and Camilla, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the thanksgiving service.
Over 400 other people will attend the event, including armed forced members, key workers and charity volunteers.
However, the Queen herself will no longer be present at the service and withdrew after experiencing “some discomfort” during Thursday’s parade.
Prince Andrew was scheduled to appear but withdrew after catching Covid.
