Heartbroken Jessie J can't stop crying over Jamal Edwards' death and says it's 'unfair'

Songstress Jessie J has broken down in tears over the death of her close friend Jamal Edwards.

The chart-topper, 34, who propelled into stardom with Jamal’s support, says she “can’t stop” herself from crying as she struggles with his passing.

Music pioneer Jamal – who was the founder of the online urban music platform SB.TV and the son of Loose Women star Brenda Edwards – died aged 31 in February this year.

Jessie had tears rolling down her face as she opened up about the grief when she spoke on The Diary of a CEO with Stephen Bartlett.

She said: “I can’t stop it. I’m not trying to cry but it’s just here and it comes up.

“[His death] puts everything in perspective. All the things we worry about and are concerned about, nothing matters…”

She added: “He was so special. When someone passes you want to remind everybody of the good that they were but he was in another league. I can’t explain it.

“I know how much he wanted to live life and how unfair it feels that of all the people that could have happened to that it happened to him.”

The music entrepreneur and YouTube star suffered a “sudden” cardiac arrest and died holding his mum Brenda’s hand.

The songstress performed at Jamal’s funeral last month

Jessie performed at Jamal’s funeral, which they called a Homecoming. She opened up about their unique friendship.

She added: “The biggest thing you learn when you lose someone you love so much and who you admire and are inspired by that life is too short for you to sit anywhere other than where you’re supposed to be.

“He’s inspired me to demand more for myself and from other people. Wherever I was supposed to receive for him. I have to find it within myself. No one will ever be that.”

Jamal’s talents as a pioneer led to him receiving several accolades throughout his life.

In 2013 he was chosen to be the ambassador for the youth charity, The Prince’s Trust and Jamal was appointed an MBE for services to music in 2014.

Alongside Jessie, Jamal helped launch the careers of many artists, including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and Emeli Sandé.
