Hi-de-Hi! star Ruth Madoc rushed to hospital after 'accident' as she pulls out of role

Iconic Hi-de-Hi! star Ruth Madoc has been rushed to hospital following a supposed “freak accident”.

The 79-year-old TV star has had somebody share a health update on her Instagram page, revealing that she’s unable to carry out her acting duties for a new role.

Taking to photo-sharing platform Instagram, somebody running Ruth’s account broke the news with a short message.

“Following an accident earlier this week, and after medical assessment, regretfully Ruth Madoc is no longer able to appear in this year’s pantomime of Aladdin at the Princess Theatre in Torquay,” the person running Ruth’s account penned in the statement.

“Everyone at the theatre wishes Ruth a speedy recovery. Further announcements regarding casting will take place in due course.”

Alongside the statement, Ruth herself spoke out, where she wrote a sweet message to fans.

She said: “Hiya everyone please don’t worry!

“I’m well and I’ll soon be back to normal, but unfortunately @princesstheatretorquay won’t get to have The Empress Gladys in the Panto this Christmas.”

Ruth has suffered an accident

The Norwich-born star is best known for her role as Gladys Pugh in the 1980s BBC television comedy Hi-de-Hi!

For her role as Gladys, she received a coveted BAFTA TV award nomination for Best Light Entertainment Performance.

She later appeared as Daffyd Thomas’ mother in the second series of Little Britain, which stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams at the helm.

She was due to star in a panto this December, but is now unable to do so

Ruth’s first husband was Philip Madoc, with whom she had son Rhys, and a daughter, Lowri.

The couple were married for 20 years, but divorced in 1981.

A year later in 1982, Ruth married her second husband John Jackson, with the pair buying a home together in 2002.
