The publication said that the prosecutor’s office has asked for an eight year prison sentence to be brought upon the singer because of the six crimes she has allegedly committed against the Public Treasury.
The Hips Don’t Lie singer is facing eight years in prison and a fine because of alleged tax offences that reportedly took place between 2012 and 2014.
Reuters have reported that that singer is accused of failing to pay taxes in the country between those years, although Shakira says she did not live in Spain during the years in question, insisting that she was in the Bahamas.
Shakira, who’s full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, also claims to have not spent upwards of 183 days per year in Spain – which is the threshold to be considered a tax resident.
As well as the above she has been accused of “hiding” her income and using “tax havens” – although Shakira denies these claims and urges that she is innocent.
She is said to be seeking a full acquittal of all offences linked to her and recently even reportedly rejected an offer from the prosecutor’s office to make a settlement and close the case for good.
The declining of the offer comes to light because Shakira is determined to clear her name and prove her innocence in court.
It is reported that the prosecutor has requested that Shakira and 37 other “witnesses” will be questioned.
