Hollyoaks' Jorgie Porter's love life – co-star romance, rugby hunk and engagement joy

Theresa McQueen tries to play cupid in Hollyoaks, as she attempts to cheer up Verity Hutchinson following her break-up with Shaq Qureshi this week.

Is Verity truly over Shaq? and will Theresa’s attempts to matchmake lead to love for Verity again? Time will tell.

Since joining Hollyoaks as Theresa in 2008, actress Jorgie Porter has become one of the show’s biggest stars and has even branched out to star in the musical Fame and launch her own podcast.

She has also led an interesting love life, including dating one of her soap co-stars and saying yes to a unique engagement proposal last year.

Hollyoaks is one of the many soaps to have boasted many co-star romances, including some that have led to marriage, and others that have led to heartbreaking splits.

One of the soap’s many co-star romances was between Jorgie and fellow Hollyoaks actor James Atherton, who played Will Savage.

The couple began dating in 2011, and talking to Gossip Monthly, Jorgie said: “Me and James have been dating a while and it is the first time I have dated a co-star. I’ve never actually admitted that we have been going out!”

She added at the time that their relationship was going really well, but that she found it strange working with her boyfriend onscreen.

“Things are going really well and he is a great guy, I can’t shut up about him,” Jorgie gushed at the time.

“It is a little weird working with him on set. We will be doing a scene and then afterwards it is like, ‘So do you want to hang out after this?'”.

However the romance wasn’t meant to be and the couple split up in 2014, with a source at the time telling The Mirror: “Her and James separated in March but still remain good friends. She is currently single.”

In December 2015, Jorgie left Hollyoaks and also began dating Rugby Star Luther Burrell.

However, their relationship only lasted for a short four months due to work commitments, with a source telling The Mirror: “Jorgie and Luther are no longer dating due to their increasingly busy work schedules.”

The actress later made a revelation about her love life during an interview with The Sun, saying that she was planning to focus on her work.

“I’m not happy to be single, but I’m not looking for love because I think when you fall in love, it hits you out of nowhere – POW – like a lightning bolt,” said Jorgie.

“Instead I’m focusing now on all of the opportunities that I’ve been given to do great work – I really feel like I’m ready to take on the world!”

In October 2020, Jorgie announced that she was dating again, sharing gorgeous photos of her and new boyfriend Ollie Piotrowski on social media.

Speaking about her relationship on her Loose Lips podcast, Jorgie gushed over her boyfriend saying: “I never, ever thought I would, or ever imagined doing that so…

“I am just so happy and very content and happy right now. I’m having the best time.”

They also took a serious step in their relationship in July 2021, when the couple decided to buy a property together.

The loved up duo posted a photograph of them standing on the doorstep of their new home smiling and with their arms open wide, captioned: “Home Sweet New Home” and “Happy New Home Week.”

In November 2021, Jorgie revealed that she had miscarried quadruplets at just 14 weeks.

Talking to Sharon Carpenter on the Loose Lips podcast, she said that she had not told anyone about her miscarriage for weeks after it happened, as she “could not find anyone” who had been through the same experience and that miscarriage wasn’t a subject that young people learn about in school.

“We were just never taught, we were never taught how to handle emotions, it was never in our mindsets for that to happen,” said Jorgie.

“I think if you’re a young woman if that happens you sort of question it. You still don’t know why this happens, we still don’t have any understanding, doctors never really tell you why.

“Four for me was the reason why, maybe they couldn’t fit in. If this could change the way we know more about it, if this is anything that brings to the table that would be incredible.”

She said that Ollie had been ‘super supportive’ and that she had received a lot of supportive messages from people, adding: “Right now I feel very loved by everyone I’ve had the most amazing response, amazing messages people have been incredible, event on sites where you think people wouldn’t usually be that nice, I’ve felt the love.”

Engagement joy

One month after revealing that she had suffered a miscarriage, Jorgie took to Instagram to share the happy news that she and boyfriend Ollie Piotrowski were engaged.

Jorgie posted a sweet snap of Ollie kissing her on the cheek while she smiled for the camera, showing off her engagement ring, with the post captioned “OMG.”

Fans and friends were delighted by the news, with Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan commenting: “Oh darling congratulations.”

Former Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn also added: “ARGHHHH CONGRATULATIONS. The best news,” while actress Chelsea Healey said: “Congratulations.”

The actress has since revealed that Ollie proposed to her at the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland in a romantic and unusual way.

Ollie planned a romantic treasure hunt that included clues about their relationship, including handwritten memories, which led Jorgie to a lakeside Marquee.

She told Hello Magazine: “Suddenly Ollie was on one knee clutching an open box. I couldn’t believe what was happening.

“He’d stuck a Haribo ring on the back of one of pictures and written ‘this is the ordinary’, that it was leading to a proposal never once entered my head.”

Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by a first-look episode on E4 at 7pm
