When Matt Wilson joined Neighbours six years ago as Aaron Brennan he was only due to have a guest role but his on-screen performances impressed producers so much they handed him a permanent role
Aaron and David Tanaka, played by Takaya Hondam, are one of most popular couples on the show.
Their on-screen marriage in 2018, the first ever same-sex nuptials on Australian TV, melted the hearts of viewers and it came just a year after same sex marriage was legalised down under.

David’s performances have won him huge praise from television critics and he was named Best New Male Character of 2015 in Soap World.
Off-screen, he married his girlfriend Jessica in a secret ceremony, and the couple also share a child whose existence they managed to keep under wraps while she was pregnant.

Real romance
Away from the soap, Matt is love-up with Jessica, but he has remained tight-lipped about their relationship.
While Matt is quite private about his wife, it is known that she is Pilates teacher and she often shares lovey-dovey snaps of the pair on her Instagram page.
In February 2019, the pair tied the knot in a surprise wedding.
The actor shared with fans on Instagram that they had got hitched – posted a snap of the newlyweds in Hawaiian patterned outfits with the cation: “Forever”
Secret baby
Matt surprised his fans when became a dad for the first time in February last year.
On February 16 Jess took to Instagram to share the happy news with her followers, after the couple kept schtum about the child during her pregnancy.
The new mum took to her social media page to share a cute snap of their new born baby boy clutching her finger.
After she posted the sweet snap, many of the couple’s fans took to the comment section to tell how baffled they were Jessica and Matt had kept her pregnancy under wraps for nine months.
Survivor star Brooke Jowett wrote: “Oh my god whaaaaaat????”
Another said: “Omg you had a baby, How did you keep this hidden for 9months. Congrats best news ever. The greatest gift in the world.” (sic)
A third stunned fan said: “A bibi ???? Oh my god, congratulations.”
A fourth added: “OMG!!! WHAT!!! Congratulations you two.”
Poignant soap tribute
Neighbours, Australia’s longest running soap, was recently axed, after producers failed to find an alternative UK home for the soap – after Channel 5 announced it wanted to stop airing it.
The official Instagram account for the show said that they were forced to cancel after the “loss of their key broadcast partner in the UK”, despite “extensive search for alternative funding”.
The show was surprisingly more popular in the UK than its home country..
After the announcement, Matt took to Instagram to share his thoughts over the news and how he plans to celebrate his almost seven year run: “Sad to say Fremantle are officially resting the show after 37 solid years!”
He thanked the cast and crew that he has been “fortunate to work with” before explaining: “Every week until June 10 (our last shooting day) I’ll share a photo from my photo album and a story to go with it.”
Wilson said that he wanted to use the pictures to “look back and remember” the seven years he spent on set, before signing off by saying that he “loves this place and will miss it dearly”.
